C'è un po di confusione... per alcune fonti il reggiseno nasce nel 1907, per altri invece nasce nel 1912 dall'idea di una giovane americana Mary Phelps Jacob; Il reggiseno di Mary Phleps era una sorta di tracolla che separava il seno servendosi di due fazzoletti e di fasce per neonato. Nasce quindi come oggetto pratico per il mondo femminile ma diventa uno strumento di seduzione, nell'immaginario maschile.
